VIDEO OF JACKIE EVANCHO: SHE IS BACK, and TONIGHT THIS 11 year old continues to steal the hearts of AMERICA! What an ANGEL!

America is still in love with 11 year old Jackie Evancho.

On Tuesday night she performed "Time To Say Goodbye" on America's Got Talent in the Second Round of the Semi-finals.

INCREDIBLE. Beyond words. Full of emotion. Raw. Speechless.

How does she do it.

A Floridian with a passion for birds and wildlife gets creative with his "social media" campaign this Labor Day Weekend!

August 31, 2010
Punta Gorda, FL

I love creative people with a BIG heart and a big idea.

Take my pal Bill Shenk down in the great state of Florida.

He has come up with a great on line promo that is actually going to result in saving the lives of birds and wildlife.

Here is what he is doing....and I wanted to post this for him/

Destination Powersports’ new owner Bill Shenk is running a charity drive to benefit the International Bird Rescue Research Center.

For every Facebook user that fans the Destination Powersports Facebook pages, Shenk will donate $1 to the IBRRC with the hopes to reach 500 fans.

Shenk chose the IBRRC because the organization is dedicated to saving aquatic birds
whether they are caught in oil, trapped in fishing line, or otherwise injured and displaced from their natural habitat.

“The gulf coast marine life needs our help now more than ever,” Shenk said. “Working right on the coast got me to thinking how I could lend a helping hand and get the word out. Helping marine life and spreading the word through social media came to mind immediately.”

Shenk uses his Facebook pages to entertain, inform, and educate people all at the same time by keeping readers in the loop with everything in the powersports world.

One tool Shenk uses is his www.destination-adrenaline.com blog, which he posts blog entries across his Facebook and Twitter sites. “I love getting new fans and I value each one I get.

The more I have, the more contests, giveaways, charity drives I can have, too.” Shenk said. Shenk purchased Destination Powersports (then Florida Motorsports) in Punta Gorda, FL, in July 2009. When he took over ownership, he was met with the challenge of changing the dealership’s operations and turn around the lower reputation that the dealership was experiencing. He started with naming the dealership Destination Powersports, and then assembled a new sales team with a new attitude.

The dealership posted its first profit in May 2010, and the future is looking bright. “The marketplace in Southwest Florida is actually softer than it was last year,” Shenk said. “So I’m happy about our performance. We still have a long way to go, and I think reaching out to the community through social media channels is the key to continued growth. Our customers have opinions and we want to know what they are. Facebook, Twitter, etc., gives them a voice and we are listening.”

The IBRRC charity drive starts now through 9/3/10 with the goal of 500 fans with $500 donated by the drive’s end. For more information, please visit www.destination-adrenaline.com

Destination Powersports is located at 1732 Steadley Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The company features quality products from Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Sea-Doo.

North Carolina, USA

It is time to "whirl with Earl!"

Nasty category 4 hurricane Earl is about to unleash some madness on the outer banks of the Carolina, and appears to be heading right up the eastern seaboard.

Earl is an SOB. That's son of a gun in these parts....

The Federal Emergency Management Agency  have issued a stern warning for people along the entire East Coast to prepare for evacuations.  BTW.  If you are in the projected path, don't wait to leave.  Be PREPARED, and don't be stupid.

So far, islanders in the Turks and Cacaos and other small islands have hunkered down in their homes on Tuesday as Earl whirled across the Caribbean with winds of 135 mph.

I hope my many friends in Trinidad and Tobago (Siddel, and his family for starters) and so many others....are taking care of themselves.

This time of  year is always scary time for millions of people.

I just returned from Kingston, Jamaica, and will be heading back there in three months to continue my work on documenting the works of the Mustard Seed Communities, so I know firsthand how just ONE storm can destroy the lives of thousands literally overnight.

I pray that Earl will behave himself....if you catch my drift.

Stay tuned.

WEST HOLLYWOOD MURDERS: More information on how the ASAP System led to the arrest of suspect Harold Yong Park

Los Angeles County Sheriff helicopter in fligh...Image via WikipediaDue to the huge interest about the Murder case on Kings Road in West Hollywood, the Los Angeles Sheriff's is touting their electronic monitoring system called "ASAP" as one of the main tools they used to catch now suspected killer Harold Yong Park.

The details of how this system works is amazing....

Park's vehicle was located by an Advanced Surveillance and Protection System’s (ASAP) Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) patrol vehicle.

He was transported to a local Sheriff’s Station where he was interviewed by the Sheriff's Homicide case investigators.  He is now behind bars and getting ready to face the legal system.... (See below posts....)
Here are the details of how the "ASAP" works.....

The Advanced Surveillance and Protection Unit was created to bring new and emerging surveillance and apprehension technologies to the Department, while developing a standard for these technologies.  Currently, the ASAP unit has implemented Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems, Acoustic Gunshot Detection systems, Fixed Video Surveillance (CCTV) systems, and Advanced Command Center integration.  The ASAP unit is currently researching Video Analytics, Portable Mesh Surveillance Systems, Ground Based Radar Systems, Megapixel cameras, rapidly deployed gunshot detection systems and various wireless solutions to support and expand the usage of technology throughout the Department.

ASAP's strategic goals are to expand intelligence gathering capabilities, evidence collection, crime intervention, crime prevention, and deterrence.  We hope to strengthen the safety and effectiveness of all law enforcement personnel primarily in support of the front line law enforcement functions, while continuing to research, expand, and deploy advanced technologies and other emerging technologies for practical use by Sheriff's personnel.

New York City, New York

On August 24th, it became official; NYC is the #1 capital for bed bugs. Bed bugs are at epidemic proportions in NYC.

I just got back from the slums in Kingston, Jamaica and trust me, I saw bugs.

My special pal Steve Kolander, the BEST SOCIAL COMMENTARY in THE USA...has a new song and tribute to the bad-ass critter.

Bed bugs are no longer a problem of the slums and low-income housing, nope they are taking over EVERYWHERE.

They are now found in the posh areas of New York.

This is a parody song by Kolander is a take off on the TV hit series theme, 'Moving on Up' for "The Jefferson's".

Thought you’d like to know, here are the HOT BED BUG SPOTS IN AMERICA! BTW. Showing some love for our "Peeps" here in Los Angeles.

We trail at #10...way behind New Dork.

1. New York
2. Detroit
3. Philly
4. Cincinnati
5. Chicago, Illinois
6. Denver, Colorado
7. Columbus, Ohio
8. Dayton, Ohio
9. Washington, D.C.
10. Los Angeles, CA

I found on a blog that scientists think that bed bugs are showing up at rates not seen since World War II because we used to use DDT as an insecticide against these little buggers.

It should be noted that while bed bugs suck blood and leave welts, they’re not supposed to carry diseases. I say, lets screw these little blood suckers and BRING back DDT!

Well, if bed bugs can make it here, they’ll make it anywhere. It’s up to you New York, New York.

Has the Kings Road Slasher been caught?

An arrest has been made involving that horrific triple murder last week on Kings Road in West Hollywood that left three men dead of gunshot wounds.

Tonight,  Harold Yong Park, age 31, of East Hollywood, is under arrest on multiple murder charges.

Here is the narrative of the arrest and details....from Lieutenant Pat Nelson, Homicide Bureau, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department:

"After exhaustive follow-up investigation the past several days, members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau and Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a suspect in connection with the triple murder that occurred in the city of West Hollywood on August 26th.

Harold Yong Park, Male Korean, aged 31 years, of Los Angeles (east Hollywood), was arrested without incident following a traffic stop in the Lomita Sheriff's Station area at around 11 AM, Monday, August 30. His vehicle was located by an Advanced Surveillance and Protection System’s (ASAP) Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) patrol vehicle. He was transported to a local Sheriff’s Station where he was interviewed by the Sheriff's Homicide case investigators.
Pirooz Moussazadeh, Murder Victim
The names of the three men who were brutally murdered were:
  • Pirooz Moussazadeh, 27 (Seen here).
  • Shahriar Moussazadeh, 38 (brother of Pirooz)
  • Bernard Khalili, 27
At the time of his arrest, Park was in possession of a significant amount (multiple pounds) of marijuana. It is believed the marijuana may have been taken by Park from the West Hollywood apartment following the murders.

The motive for the killings is still under investigation, but investigators believe robbery was involved.
Following his interview, Park was booked for murder and is being held without bail at the Lomita Sheriff’s Station jail. The case will be presented to the District Attorney in the coming days.

Lieutenant Nelson said, "The people of West Hollywood can rest easy tonight. The timely resolution of this case is the culmination of extensive efforts by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Major Crimes Bureau investigators, Scientific Services Bureau (Crime Lab) crime scene investigators, and West Hollywood and Lomita Station sheriff's deputies.

Law enforcement had previously mentioned that "drugs appeared" not to be a motive in this case.

CHARLES JUAN PROCTOR: Man Sentenced to More than 400 Years after Long Beach, Hawaiian Gardens Area Attacks

Current Seal of the County of Los Angeles, Cal...Image via Wikipedia
LONG BEACH – A violent felon convicted of attacking Hawaiian Gardens and  Long Beach area women – including slashing the throats of two – was sentenced today to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Long Beach Superior Court Judge Gary Ferrari sentenced Charles Juan Proctor, 45, to 433 years, plus 11 life sentences. The defendant was additionally ordered to pay restitution to two victims, totaling $57,790, for their medical expenses and $10,000 to the state victims’ restitution fund.

Proctor was convicted on Aug. 13 of 22 counts involving six victims. Deputy District Attorney Carol Rose of the Long Beach Branch Office prosecuted the case.

Following a five-day trial, jurors deliberated two and a half hours before convicting Proctor of five counts of robbery; three counts each of kidnap for robbery, false imprisonment, and burglary; two counts each of attempted murder and mayhem; and one count each of attempted robbery, attempted kidnap for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and assault.

The majority of Proctor's victims were shop owners attacked at their places of business. The remaining victims were shop employees. The defendant preyed on women who were alone. His attacks began on Feb. 18, 2008, with the robbery, kidnap for robbery and burglary of a woman at a hair salon.

Rose said his violent spree resumed daily, with five more brutal assaults from April 26 through May 2, 2008. Four of the attacks were in downtown Long Beach. One occurred in Hawaiian Gardens. One of the most brutal of the attacks was the slashing of a woman who sustained a four-inch wound to the neck, plus stab wounds to her face and head. Proctor went on to slit the throat of a second victim the next day, causing a quarter-inch-wide wound to her neck. Both women survived.

Proctor’s crimes in Los Angeles County concluded on May 2, when he robbed and attempted to kidnap a woman in downtown Long Beach.

Two days later, he was arrested for trespassing in Las Vegas. DNA linked him to a December 2007 attempt to kidnap a woman from a Las Vegas parking lot. During the attack, he cut her throat with a box cutter. In 2008, Proctor was convicted of his Las Vegas crimes and extradited to Los Angeles County. The defendant also has a 1988 attempted sexual assault conviction out of Nevada.

Rose said Proctor was linked to the crimes in Long Beach and Hawaiian Gardens by DNA evidence, fingerprints, eyewitness identification and surveillance video footage. The defendant is currently serving a prison term in Nevada for similar crimes.

VIDEO OF Mt. SINABUNG VOLCANO ERUPTION! Thousands of Indonesians run for their lives as dormat volcano blasts twice in 24 hours!

By Randy Economy
August 29, 2010
10:12 p.m. PST

Tonight their is panic in the island country of Indonesia.

For the second time in two days the  volcano  on Mt. Sinabung erupted, and nearly 20,000 people have been evacuated.

The spewing white clouds of smoke and ash have reached more than 2,000 yards into the air.  The smoke is choking the air and the danger is growing by the hour according to sources on the scene.

Thousands of people living along the slopes of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province have been evacuated to emergency shelters, mosques and churches, said Priyadi Kardono, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.

Their abandoned villages and crops are blanketed in heavy, gray soot.

Mount Sinabung last erupted in 1600, so observers don't know its eruption pattern and are monitoring it closely for more activity. They raised the volcano's alert to the highest level after its first blast Sunday, which followed days of rumbling.

"The problem is, we really have no idea what to expect," said Surono, a government volcanologist who uses only one name.  (He must be so well known that he doesn't need a last name.)

  •   People evacuated climbed to 12,000
  • Around 3,740 hectares of forest and farming fields were burned by lava, volcanic ashes and fire surging from  Mt. Sinabung
  • Food, emergency tents, and medicine were on their way to the scene.
  • Government also has set up public kitchens for refugees.
  • 17,000 respiratory masks have been distributed.

BUCKY GUNTS?! KUDOS TO NBC! 2010 Emmy Awards is the BEST EVER! Opening featuring Glee was a RIOT! Poor John Stewart....back in rehab....?

NBC has hit it out of the ball park tonight with one of the best Emmy Award Shows I have ever seen.

It was like watching a "visual candy store" come to life in Downtown Los Angeles.

The Staple Center is a massive stage, and tonight's showcase of the best of the best in the television industry is just plain magical to witness.

The intro to the 2010 Emmy awards featuring the cast of FOX's "Glee" was one of the best "opening acts" ever for a television awards show.

I am going to remember this night for a long long time.

Jimmy Fallon is a SUPERSTAR in the making, and Bucky Gunts is the next American Idol.

Comic actor Ricky Gervais was a riot tonight when he presented the very thirsty Emmy crowd with "free beers" and stole the show when he announced that Bucky Gunts had won the Directing Emmy for Variety, Music or Comedy Special.

Also, sad to learn that talk show host John Stewart is back in rehab.

Ricky Gervais and his "Bucky Gunts moment!"
Oh, those Hollywood jet setters....
