Latina Huntington Park Council Member claims city problems caused by ‘Americans’

By Randy Economy
A public comment from a Mexico-born Huntington Park City Councilwoman has sparked a controversy after she blamed “the Americans” who served as past elected officials for problems with residential and business water meters.
Councilwoman Rosa Perez, who was elected in 2011, stunned the mostly Spanish speaking audience in attendance at Huntington Park City Hall last week when she blasted residents with the comment “I wanted to come into (elected) office, and to see what the problems are in the city and try to bring solutions to them. A big problem is that people think that when the Americans were in office everything was all great and when the Latinos came in, then all the problems came in.”
Perez continued in Spanish by claiming, “but the Americans did a lot of these contracts that are costing us (Latinos) much money.”

Several residents immediately reacted with loud yells in protest to the comments.

SHAME! We are all americans North AMERICANS, Central AMERICANS, South AMERICANS. Do you see the pattern Rosa? To use Americans as a racial slur is tantamount to HATE! I guess the FAGS and The JEWS will be next. How's about the blacks Rosa or are they lumped in with all the AMERICANS (African americans). Being born in mexico I can see where your life reference to a caste system would be normal behavior to you. I Say "RECALL"!.We dont' need that kind of hate in governmaent. November is is coming and we will have plenty there. Big Mickey

SHAME on No one but those who comment and have no idea......Rosa Perez is an amazing woman, and as a proud citizen of Huntington Park. You would have to know the actual history on Huntington Park and what it has evolved into from the early 50s to now.......Women like Rosa Perez, Jessica Maes, and Rosario Marin (Treasurer of the United States) are all from Huntington Park and have strived to make this city amazing. And have fallen short because of matter that were not taken care of in previous times. She wasnt trying to offend anyone she simply meant people deam our community (Latinos) as stupid and gullible and have been bamboozled for far to long with regards to the City and its contracts. Look what happened to Bell.....Again if you are not from HUntington Park and actually have lived through the good and bad here then you shouldnt point fingers. Because if you were a resident you would also know that Rosa Perez's late husband was a beloved and amazing Mayor of our city and did much for the people here and then was taken from office and passed without finishing what his plan was and now Rosa is there......Ignorance is not bliss...

Amazing! I live in South Gate and this is just more Hate spewing from South East areas Council Members. Luckily we have good people now in South Gate, but I remember when Albert Robles and Xochilt Grace Ruvalcaba were in office before they were recalled, they spoke just like Rosa Perez. Blaming the White Man for everything. Watch out Huntington Park. Perez is full of hate and anger and pointing fingers instead of trying to fix the problem. from Virginia of South Gate.
