Seven attackers associated with an assault that occurred near Cactus Middle School in Palmdale on March 14, 2012 were arrested Wednesday by Palmdale Sheriff’s Station detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

The 15-year old Hispanic victim in this assault was walking home from school near the 3200 Block of East Avenue R-8, when a group of up to ten male Black juveniles approached him and challenged him to a fight. The suspects surrounded the victim and began punching him while several other juveniles watched.

The victim continued to defend himself from the group of suspects until he fell to the ground. The suspects continued to assault him by punching and kicking him in the face and head. The victim was finally able to get to his feet and escape the onslaught of the attackers.

After arriving home, the victim was treated at a local hospital for multiple kicks to his head resulting in swelling and shoe impressions left in his skin. The victim is also undergoing surgery to repair several of his teeth which were kicked out during the attack.

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station detectives released these details about the case on March 23, 2012 in an attempt to identify the attackers involved. On Wednesday March 28, 2012, Sheriff’s detectives detained seven juveniles who were identified in the video depicting the assault on youtube, which was discovered by a Palmdale sheriff’s deputy and copied for evidence. The video has since been taken off of youtube by the person who posted it. The video is not being released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The juvenile suspects are residents of Palmdale whose ages range from 13 to 16. They were arrested for felony charges of Assault with Force Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury and Committing a Hate Crime.

Deputies would like to thank the members of the community who notified the station with leads to assist detectives in identifying the suspects. The ongoing investigation will be handled by the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Detective Bureau, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Palmdale Sheriff’s Station investigators at 661-272-2400. Partner to prevent or report crime by contacting your local sheriff’s station. “Deputies continue to work closely with area schools to educate youth about respect for others,” said Lieutenant Don Ford, Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. “We are already working with local schools to increase the availability of the LASD SHARE Tolerance program. It is a multi-faceted program for combating hate and intolerance in our communities.”

BRENDA SIERRA: Who killed the 15-year old back in 2002. Law Enforcement is reaching OUT to US

Who killed Brenda Sierra

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives held a press conference today to seek the public’s assistance in indentifying and locating three individuals whom they believe were involved in the 2002 kidnap and brutal murder of Brenda Sierra, a 15-year-old high school student from the East Los Angeles community.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. in the morning on October 18th 2002, Brenda was walking to a friend’s house on her way to school when she was abducted from the sidewalk. Investigators believe the abduction occurred in the area of Leonard Avenue and Whittier Boulevard. Her body was discovered the next day on October 19, 2002 in the “Valley of Enchantment” area of the City of Crestline, in San Bernardino County

Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators have been persistent in their pursuit of those responsible for Brenda’s murder and have developed information that the two individuals depicted in the composite drawings are “persons-of-interest” in the kidnap and murder of Brenda. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the two individuals, their current whereabouts and any other information which may assist detectives in locating them. At the time of Brenda’s murder, the two were known street gang members who frequented the area where Brenda was abducted. Witnesses have come forth and provided vital information relating to this case but detectives still need more to come forward.

The third “person-of-interest” is George Barraza who is believed to be in Mexico, but may travel back and forth across the border. Currently, he is wanted for questioning in Brenda’s murder; however he is also wanted on a “no-bail” arrest warrant for a prior narcotics conviction.

Because Brenda was abducted on her way to school during the morning rush-hour, detectives believe that local residents may have seen the contact between Brenda and her abductors. Detectives have gathered information that one or two females may have made contact with Brenda on the street, which facilitated her abduction. Detectives are asking the public to contact them if they have any information or recollection of this incident. In addition, detectives are seeking any information from the residents in the Crestline area who may have seen the individuals depicted in the flyers attached, on or around October 18th or 19th 2002. Witnesses in the area have previously noted a “suspicious, dark, SUV” in the area, prior to the discovery of Brenda’s body.

Through this press conference, Sheriff’s investigators are hoping that due to the passage of time, those who were involved, or who have knowledge of Brenda’s senseless murder, have had a change of heart or a change of conscious. Lt. Dave Colman stated, “Certainly, we hope that anyone with knowledge of this horrific incident will overcome any fear of coercion or retaliation and come forward and bring justice to Brenda and her family.”

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org

SACRAMENTO – The MEGA Millions jackpot for Friday night’s draw has officially become the largest jackpot in the history of lotteries around the world…$540 million!
Not surprisingly, players took to the internet to find out the winning numbers Tuesday night and the Lottery’s website had 1 million hits between 8-9pm. Also, as expected, “MEGA Millions jackpot” is one of the top trending topics on the worldwide web currently. Although nine Californians matched five numbers without the Mega number, no one matched all six numbers in Tuesday night’s MEGA Millions draw, making Friday’s night’s jackpot worth the astounding $540 million amount.
The estimated cash option for Friday night’s draw is $389.8 million. If a single winner won the jackpot and the annual payment option was chosen, payments would be $20.7 million a year for 26 years (before taxes). The retailer who sells the jackpot-winning ticket will receive the maximum bonus of $1 million. For reference, the largest MEGA Millions jackpot ever won was $390 million in March 2007, with a cash option of $233 million.
MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 plus a Mega number from 1 to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s MEGA Millions site for more information.
As jackpots rise, the California Lottery would like to remind players that gambling should be fun. Borrowing money to play, spending above a person’s budget or using money intended for other purposes can ultimately lead to significant problems for players and their families. If a player recognizes that they have a gambling problem or if someone knows of someone who may have a problem, the Lottery recommends calling the Problem Gambling Help Line at 1-800-GAMBLER.
The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year, and, since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed a total of more than $24 billion to education. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
